In a 5-to-4 vote this week, the supreme court’s conservative justices cut-down a long-standing limit on how much donors can give in total to federal candidates, party committees, and political action committees in a two-year election cycle. This move opens the floodgates for wealthy individuals to give higher donations to influence political campaigns. McCutcheon v. FEC, is described by many to be the “next Citizens United.” Organized grassroots resistance is growing in response to this newest move to concentrate wealth in the hands of the 1%.
